I am excited to share that our activities and commitment to the recovery project in Swaen Village have been featured in a recent article on nu.cw!

The nu.cw article from July 15, 2025, reports that the Wijkstichting Swaen (Swaen and Surroundings Foundation – FSiB) is urging the Curaçao government, specifically the Pisas cabinet, to finally implement urban development plans for the Swaen district that date back 34 years.

The foundation, in its 2024 annual report, emphasizes that now is an opportune moment to revive these plans, especially with Willemstad’s 30th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage site approaching in 2027. FSiB believes that with the current political majority, there is no longer an excuse for delay. An integrated approach to Swaen’s development, according to the foundation, would be a ‘crown jewel’ that honors both its architectural history and the residents’ quality of life.

This call to action follows various activities undertaken by the foundation in 2024, including a large-scale cleanup, socio-cultural research, and a workshop with policymakers. The foundation, established on May 9, 2018, aims to enhance the social involvement of Swaen residents and hopes that their approach can serve as a model for other neighborhoods in Curaçao.
